Gemini 4 Argon API pricing and cost calculator

A 60 turn coding session with a mostly cached 120,000 token prompt costs $8.976 on Gemini 4 Argon at standard rates, or $4.488 with the discount running now. Replace the example with your own turn count and hit rate.

Gemini 4 Argon is Google's reasoning model for software engineering, math and science problems, and autonomous multi step agents. It takes audio, file, image, text and video input and has a 1,048,576 token context window. Its standard rates are $4 per million input tokens, $20 per million output tokens and $0.20 per million cache read tokens. An introductory discount of 50% runs through November 30, 2026. It brings input to $2 and output to $10 per million tokens until standard rates start on December 1. Google's pricing page lists no free tier for Argon, so every token is billed from the first request. The examples below price standard rates first and show the discount beside them wherever one applies.

Cost Comparison

Based on 100,000 input tokens (50% cached), 5,000 output tokens, and 100 requests.Prices come live from OpenRouter at each maker's own price where it's listed. Temporary deals are left out.

How this is calculated

The calculator's default request has 100,000 input tokens and 5,000 output tokens. At standard rates it costs $0.50 with no cache hits and $0.31 with half the input cached. Over 100 calls a month the chart starts at $31. With the discount, the half cached call costs $0.155 through November 30, 2026, and $0.31 at standard rates after that. A software engineering agent shows where the money goes. Take 60 turns, each carrying a 120,000 token prompt and writing 4,000 tokens, with most of the prompt read from cache. One session costs $8.976 at standard rates and $4.488 with the discount. If the cache misses, the standard figure becomes $33.60. Until the discount ends, check Google's page for how caching works. From December 1 the cache is implicit only, so Google applies hits on its own and there's no setup step. What you control is the prompt. Keep the stable part first, and read the cached token count in the usage the API returns. Math and science problems flip the balance toward output. A short problem of 8,000 input tokens that produces 40,000 reasoning and answer tokens costs $0.832, and 1,000 of them cost $832. The discounted figure for those 1,000 problems is $416. Batch prices exist too. A nightly job over 10,000 files, each with 25,000 input tokens and 2,000 output tokens, costs $1,400 at the normal rates and $700 in batch mode, which takes 50% off input and 50% off output. Check Google's pricing page for how the discount and batch prices combine before you stack them in a budget.

Verdict

Plan from standard rates and treat any discount as a bonus. The introductory discount runs through November 30, 2026, so a budget built on discounted figures will be wrong from December 1. The standard figures are the safe ones. Argon's output is where reasoning work spends its money, so test it on real engineering, math or agent tasks and log output tokens per task along with accepted results. Search grounding needs its own line in the budget, since the free allowance is shared across Gemini 3 and later models and the fee beyond the allowance is charged per 1,000 prompts. Recheck Google's pricing page before you commit to a volume.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Gemini 4 Argon cost per million tokens?
Standard rates are $4 per million input tokens, $0.20 per million cache read tokens and $20 per million output tokens. A discount of 50% is running now, which puts input at $2 and output at $10 per million tokens through November 30, 2026. A request with 100,000 input tokens, half of them cached, and 5,000 output tokens costs $0.31 at standard rates.
Is there a discount on Gemini 4 Argon?
Yes. Google lists an introductory discount of 50% that runs through November 30, 2026, and standard rates start December 1. The 100,000 input, 5,000 output call with half the input cached costs $0.155 with the discount and $0.31 without it. Plan long projects around the standard figure.
Does Gemini 4 Argon have a free tier?
Google's pricing page lists no free tier for Argon, so token usage is billed from the first request. Search grounding is a separate matter. It includes 5,000 prompts free per month, shared across Gemini 3 and later models, and that allowance doesn't give you free Argon tokens.
How does caching work on Gemini 4 Argon?
Check Google's pricing page for how caching works today. From December 1 the cache is implicit only. That means Google applies cache hits on its own, with no setup step on your side. Keep the stable part of the prompt at the start and confirm hits in the usage the API returns. A cache read costs 95% less than uncached input, so a 120,000 token agent prompt that hits the cache is much cheaper to resend.
Does Gemini 4 Argon have batch pricing?
Yes. Batch prices are listed at $2 input and $10 output per million tokens right now. The 100,000 input, 5,000 output call with half the input cached costs $0.155 in batch mode. Use it for work that can wait for results.
How much does Google Search grounding cost with Gemini 4 Argon?
Google includes 5,000 grounded prompts free per month, shared across Gemini 3 and later models, then charges $14 per 1,000 prompts. A product that sends 20,000 grounded prompts in a month pays for 15,000 of them, which is $210, as long as nothing else has used the shared allowance. Grounded calls to other Gemini 3 or later models count against the same 5,000, so total them across models before you estimate.
Does Gemini 4 Argon charge extra for long prompts?
Google's pricing page lists no separate long prompt tier, so the same rates apply across the whole 1,048,576 token window. A bigger prompt still costs more because it holds more tokens. A 500,000 token prompt with 5,000 output tokens costs $2.10 at standard rates with no cache hits.
